Thanks for the response! Any ideas on the rattle I'm hearing from the secondary clutch? I've seen that rollers tend to break in these machines. It will rattle when rolling to a stop sometimes, and when I had the belt tool compressing the secondary clutch and spun the clutch it had a rattle. Doesn't do it with the clutch not compressed.

 

belts have been know to glaze if you get water or mud in the belt housing and use the throttle to get out at high rpm and smoke it. i have around 12,000 miles on can am atvs and i have never glazed or smoked a belt but i fast trail ride only and avoid deep mud if poosible. i have read the glaze can look greenish in color, but i also have used a maverick belt once in my 800 renegade and after 500 miles it had a greenish tint. i scrubbed it with hot soapy water and a green scott bright pad and put it back on as i never got wter in housing or smoked the belt, i ran it for another 2 or 3 thousand miles before i swapped it out with for preventative maintenance, now its just a spare. I'd scotch brite the belt and really clean the primay and secondary sheves good with break cleaner and a scotch brite, its pretty amazing how much belt residue comes off even if they look clean. i would blow them off first with a air compressor if you have one just stand back a little quite a bit, the belt dust will go everywhere.

 

No missing bits, but he got good and stuck a couple of weeks ago and it started squealing after that.

Visibley it looks ok but looks like they can glaze over if overheated?

i have some calipers. Will see what that shows

I’ll check out the Gates. That’s what I use on my Jeeps.

 

service life of the belt is 30 mm measured at the fabric in the middle. you can buy a measuring caliper at home depot for about $30 bucks. if its missing clogs on top or bottom i would replace. a new belt will measure between 32mm and 33mm depending on brand. Oem or the gates red line are good replacements, there are others that get good reviews but i have not personally used them like the worlds best belt.
