How about a higher riser? Did BRP stop at 1 inch for a reason

I have the BRP riser (I am 6' tall) and I don't know if I would like to go up any more but I sure would like to come back 1" or so. I currently get a real muscle knot between my shoulder blades on long trips.

I know Kewlmetal are about to market an adapter that mounts standard handlebars to the Spyder but I personally don't like the look of what they have produced.
See this thread and scroll own about halfway Kewlmetal bars

I would love something that moves the bars back 1" and keeps the "standard" appearance. Something that was adjustable to suit the individual would be a real plus. Mind you if it means replacing all the cables that would be a concern but it seems from other reports that they have a bit of spare to play with.

This is just from my experience after installing the Zumo 550 on the handle bar cover, and I have the 1" riser installed.

Any additional height/angle more than the 1" riser will case issues, the cables that release the trunk/seat are currently rather maxed out for length. Also the hose for the clutch cylinder is rather to the max, so for the "average" owner adding additional height/angle could be a challenge.

Strange because the posts from the Kewlmetal guy says that with a little "rearrangement" the standard cables etc are usable on theirs.

No comment on those guys...

I did not check every cable or the possibility of doing it, but if it is possible, it will be a bit more than just a "little re-routing" in my opinion, for what ever it is worth. ;)

I would suggest before investing in anything, do a tear apart and see what will be involved.

Hi All

I have the BRP 1" riser and would dearly like to have some adjustment to move the bars back an inch or so.

This below seems to have some real potential for adjustment. Perhaps this 4" rise is too much but I like the adjustment it offers while still keeping the standard centre cover etc..

See details at http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5642

A smaller riser, say 2 or 3 inch would give infinite adjustment both up and back and seems a really simple option - assuming it would be made strong/safe enough.

Just my first impressions,I know when the Spyder trailer hitch on eBay was being discussed, Lamont was one of the people that thought it should have some tests for strength and reliability and a few thousnad miles of testing before being marketed.

Now he goes and designs and builds this system and I'm sure it will be marketed. For me I would want to see some sort of tests done on this design, this is rather a critical modification for someone to just toss together in a home shop.

Yes I agree you would have to be sure that it was strong/ridged enough BUT it would seem a simple enough issue. I have no engineering knowledge but I would be pretty confident that something suitable could be machined up - perhaps with a larger surface clamping area (rather than these "off the shelf" risers). Also I don't believe they would need to be this big - a couple of inches would give you a lot of adjustment. It is certainly something I believe would be worthwhile.

I would prefer doing it with a complete new one piece handle bar, attached to the stock yoke, to me that would the best way.

I see some product liability with that design, also it is not going to be an easy install for an average Spyder owner.
