I recently had to tear the bike down for a new steering stem and handlebar, after an accident and now the bike is back together, everything is working as it should, except the RPMs are displaying with a negative value -1400 RPMs instead of 1400. Anyone ever seen this?

I've had next to nothing to do with the early dash units.
It looks like it's getting crossed information for some reason.
Is the "-" symbol part of another icon that's used in the display?
Any moisture in the dash?
I'd check all the ground connections and make sure they are all ok and reseat the dash plug a few times.

a dirty speed sensor can cause issues with the dash display, try cleaning it and see if that helps or it could be that the speed sensor is going out, i had one go out in my 2010 rene 800xxc and it did all kinds of weed stuff with the dash and got progressively worse over a 3 day ride till it finally would not stay running.

could also be a battery going bad with the colder weather or just need a charge or the battery cables are slightly loose. tighten up the cables and put it on a tender for a day and see what it does.
