UXC Racing Built Can-Am Outlander Wins at Baja 500

06/18/2012

Shelbyville, TN – The Baja 500 is considered to be one of the toughest races on the planet and in order to finish, let alone win, your machine has to be as tough and rugged as the conditions that are encountered. For the 2012 Tecate SCORE Baja 500, UXC Racing’s Michael Swift not only built a machine that could finish, but he also built a machine that allowed the team of Mike Penland and Carl Vella to win the Utility ATV class 26 aboard the 2012 Can-Am Outlander.

This year’s course consisted of a 450 mile loop that started and ended in Ensenada. The course was a little tighter and a little more technical than in most years but the team was able to handle it all and rode a flawless race.

“This was a really great opportunity for me and all of my sponsors. Everyone stepped up and helped to make this a great build. We used the new Can-Am Outlander 1000 as the base, which is the same model Team UXC Racing uses in the GNCC series and set it up specifically for conditions at the Baja 500,” said Michael Swift.

“This was a really great experience for us. Michael built an excellent machine and we were able to not only finish, but also to win our class. I really have to thank him and all of the sponsors that helped to make this happen for us,” said veteran racer, Mike Penland.

“I have to thank Mike Penland for giving me my first Baja experience and having me aboard his team. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to Michael Swift and the Team UXC sponsors for all of their hard work to make this happen,” stated Carl Vella.

The number 200A team ran a solid race and never encountered any issues. They finished with a time of 17:46:12, giving them the class 26 win.

Although Michael Swift was unable to join the team for this year’s Baja 500 due to a prior commitment, he plans to join Mike Penland and Carl Vella for the Baja 1000 in November. “We’re going to do it all over again for the Baja 1000 and I’m hoping to join them for this race. I think it’s going to be a good race and I’m really looking forward to it. I have to give a big thank you to all of my sponsors for allowing me this opportunity to put them on the podium and putting their trust in me for the Baja 1000 as well,” said Swift.
