Engine oil?

Is 20w50 royal purple alright to run in my 16 outlander 650

That's a little heavy. A 30 or 40 weight should do, look in the back of your manual for the chart.

I run Rotella T6 I think it is 5w40.  I have had no issues.  Not sure if I would run a oil that thick.  Others may chime in.


2016 XT-P 1000 with 30 inch Blackwater EVO's,  Fender Flares, Tiger Tale, Can-Am Rad Relocate & snorkel, 2 inch lift.

2013 King Quad 750 with 27 inch Bear Claw HTR's, VDI, Injector, Coop Clutch Mod 3+,  Bumpers, Tiger Tale.

Do you live in a hot or cold climate? 20 weight is probably ok if it's warm out at start up. At the very low end the specs say 0* F. The top number is for engine temp so it's your choice but 50 would be good for really hot engine temps.

i use the shell t6 5w-40 like so many others, about 6 months ago they changed the package and it now says its for diesels. from everything i searched its still good to use in our 4wheelers.

Just put in mobil 1 0w40, should be alright to use from evwrything ive read. I cant seen to find anything in 5w40.

Buying expensive oil of any brand is a complete waste of money, it does nothing for the performance nor longevity of the engine, it is designed to make the rider feel better about "doing something good" for his quad so he can say "I run XXX oil in my quad".

 

Period.

If you want to run the best, try shortmag scented oils. It's cheap and it's good.

Triple filtered, has a "splash" of everything in it.

Just started using the Rotella T6 myself. Makes sense. Right price and the right specs for Can Am.
