I am wondering about taking an 800 motor out of an Outlander and sticking it in my Renegade 500. What would have to be swapped? Would speedometer and everything work? I know the ECM would have to be swapped. I want an 800 Renegade and I also want to get my wife an Outlander....So I want to turn a Renegade 500 into an 800 and then put my 500 back in the Outty frame.
Let me know what kind of trouble and pain in the butt it will be.
Thanks,
Murph

I can tell you the display is different. Although they look the same, they won't work. They are a different part number. They cost $200-$250. Just buy new 800 decals and never race anyone.

TRAITOR!! haha, jk. hey there are really good deals on older 800s. 07-08. even down here they are offering $2000 off, up front. you should easily get an 800 for what you paid for your 500. i know i could. end of the year coming and i think they know everyone will want the '011 stuff.
make 'em sweat. find out what the bank will loan you and offer them that. if they wont do it give them your phone # and say "when you want to sell one, call me". you may be surprized.

well the thing is I think my wife would like (and I would like) to have an outty because then I can put a bag or box on it and have it carry extra gear or fuel and then she would have the nice big fenders. Then I would have the 800 motor for my Rene.....but it doesnt seem like it will work. If the outty ECM wont work with the Rene dash.

I think my best bet is by a Renegade 800 and then overfenders and a PRM rack for the 500.....I really wish I had a money tree

why dont you just take off the gade gauge and plug it into your outlander and see if it works...?? and see if the outty one will work with the gade ECM...they pop right out and then its plug and play...
if it does then your all set...it should work but you might have to change a pin or something...
as for the motor...it should all fit over easily...it will take some work but shouldnt be bad at all...the 500 is still the exact same as the 800 rene just different motor and electronics...

I do like outlanders...I want one of each (renegade and outlander) In my original post I want to get an outty 800 and put the motor in the Renegade then I can drive which ever one I want, but overall I would want my Renegade to have the 800

wish it was like that here...
I get the outlander and my wife is going to be getting an xxc gade
oh well I love the outty and when I ride alone I will have a choice...
but I would sell the 500 gade and get an 800 gade and 800 outty cause your wife will whine and cry all day long if she cant go as fast as you can...mine does anyway...

My wife has a 650 Outty, only because I talked her into it from the 500 Outty. She always says, I don't need to go fast. I talked her into the 650 because of the improved front suspension. And she LOVES her Outty. And of course the difference between a 500 and 800 Gade is only motor.

roflmao that sounds perfect in those words
when riding a renegade, you never look at other brands and wish you had it, when riding something else, you look at a renegade and WISH you had one
